Why is it so useful?
Aluminium foil has small useful features but none quite as big as any other item on the market. Aluminiums usefulness comes from the fact that it is easy to bend/shape to a persons desire. It's first use was in 1903 aluminium foil was a small item and didn't seem to have much potential, it didn't start to become noticed until 1910.
Being the flexible super thin metal that it is, aluminium can be wrapped around almost any object so it is perfect to cover anything it is also a great insulator so putting it on hot food will keep the food warm. |
Aluminium has managed to survive the test of time (which is over a hundred years) because of its unique ability of leaving no metallic taste or odour. The reason that it has beaten practically every single alternative is because of its no odour ability but there's a catch, Aluminium takes 500 years to decompose but glad wrap takes 450. This doesn't mean glad wraps a better alternative but it does show how deadly these materials are to the environment.
Besides this terrible truth aluminium has been proven to be useful, its usage across the globe is visible in every day items and bits of art but even though aluminium foil is mostly used for wrapping its best used for experiments! |
